Qur’an recitation — checked against the verse

Recite a verse or the wake-up du‘a out loud — the app listens and checks it. Your Arabic Qur’an recitation is recorded and checked via our server by an AI speech service (OpenAI), so it needs internet; the du‘a and the translation run through Apple’s speech recognition in iOS. Choose Arabic script, transliteration or the translation in your language.

As-salāmu ʿalaikum — I’m Mustafa, a student at the Islamic University of Madinah.

Over the past years I’ve had the honour of looking after brothers and sisters coming to Makkah and Madinah for Umrah. And again and again I heard the same words: “My īmān has become weak.” — “I want to get my life back on track.” — “I want to finally pray again.”

However different the stories were — the beginning of the answer was almost always the same: praying Fajr on time. Win the morning for Allah and you win the day. Īmān grows, discipline returns, life falls into place.

But that exact prayer is the hardest one — the alarm loses to the blanket, night after night. That’s why I built Fajr Up: an alarm that doesn’t negotiate, and an app that carries you to the prayer — in shā’ Allāh with everything that matters thought through.

Questions, answered.

Does the alarm really ring in Silent mode?
On iOS 26.1 and later, yes: Fajr Up rings through Apple’s AlarmKit, the alarm interface of iOS. According to Apple, these alarms override Silent mode and Focus when necessary. The volume follows your Ringtone and Alerts setting (Settings → Sounds & Haptics). On older iOS versions a fallback alarm rings through the app itself, so don’t swipe Fajr Up away in the app switcher. More in our guide: why a Fajr alarm doesn’t ring.
Is my recitation uploaded anywhere?
Yes — for the Arabic Qur’an recitation. The recording is sent to our server, where a hosted speech model (OpenAI) transcribes it once so the app can check it against the verse. It’s used only for that check, not to build a profile of you. The wake-up du‘a and the read-aloud translation go through Apple’s speech recognition in iOS — we never receive that audio. The Qur’an check needs internet: offline, the app tells you and lets you switch to another mission or confirm manually.
I can’t read Arabic — can I still use the recitation missions?
Yes. During onboarding you choose how you want to read: Arabic script, transliteration (Latin letters) or the translation in your language. The missions adapt to your choice.
What if I’m fasting — can it wake me for Suhūr?
Yes. Fajr Up follows the Hijri calendar and knows Ramadan, the white days, Mondays & Thursdays, ʿĀshūrāʾ and ʿArafa. It wakes you before Fajr for Suhūr and sends a reminder the evening before a fasting day.
Can I really not snooze at all?
There is no snooze button. The alarm stops when you complete your mission — reciting, scanning, moving. If recognition fails or you are offline, you can switch missions or confirm manually.
Which languages does the app support?
Fajr Up runs in nine languages: English, Arabic, German, Turkish, French, Spanish, Bosnian, Indonesian and Malay. Qur’an and du‘a content is always in Arabic — with transliteration and translation in your language.
