Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 July 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what data Fajr Up (“Fajr Up”, “we”, “us”) collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. Fajr Up is an alarm and habit app that helps Muslims wake up for the Fajr prayer. We designed Fajr Up to keep as much of your data on your device as possible.

1. Data we process on your device only

The following is processed locally on your iPhone and is not sent to us:

  • Location — used to calculate your Fajr and sunrise times and to power the alarm. Your coordinates stay on your device.
  • Microphone / speech (du‘a & German meaning) — for the wake-up du‘a and the German-meaning recitation, speech recognition is processed by the iOS speech engine (Apple); we do not receive or store this audio on our servers. The Arabic Qur’an recitation is handled differently — see section 2.
  • Motion & camera pose detection — prayer-movement missions run on-device.
  • App settings, streaks and wake history — stored locally on your device.

2. Data sent to our services

  • Scan-mission photos — when you scan a Qur’an verse or an object to dismiss your alarm, the photo is sent to our backend and an AI vision provider (OpenAI) solely to verify the image. Photos are used for verification and are not used to build a profile of you.
  • Qur’an recitation audio (Arabic) — when you recite an Arabic verse to dismiss your alarm, the audio recording is sent to our backend (a Supabase Edge Function running a hosted speech model) to transcribe and verify your recitation once. It is used only for verification, not to build a profile of you. If you are offline, an on-device model is used instead and nothing is uploaded.
  • Account & groups (optional) — if you create an account to use Fajr Buddies, we store your email address and a display name. If you join or create a group, we store your group membership and your daily Fajr completion status so your group can see it.
  • Subscription status — purchase and entitlement data is processed by Apple and RevenueCat to unlock Fajr Up.
  • Usage analytics — we use Mixpanel (configured on EU data residency, so this data stays in the EU) to understand how the app is used, linked to your account ID (a random UUID) or an anonymous device identifier. Only non-sensitive commercial/usage events are sent — never your name, email or prayer data. This runs on our legitimate interest and is on by default; you can turn it off any time under Settings → Privacy. We do not advertise and do not track you across other apps (no IDFA).
  • Crash & diagnostics — we use Sentry, hosted in the EU (Frankfurt), to receive crash and error reports; personal and prayer data are scrubbed from these reports.

3. Service providers

We rely on the following processors, who may handle limited data on our behalf:

  • Apple — app distribution and in-app purchases (USA).
  • RevenueCat — subscription management and receipt validation (USA).
  • Supabase — secure database and authentication for accounts, groups and streak data (EU).
  • OpenAI — AI verification of scan-mission images (USA).
  • Mixpanel — product-usage analytics (EU data residency).
  • Sentry — crash and error reporting (EU, Frankfurt).
  • Resend — transactional emails (e.g. account confirmation).

4. How we use data

  • To provide the alarm, missions, streaks and Suhūr reminders.
  • To operate Fajr Buddies groups you choose to join.
  • To verify scan missions.
  • To manage subscriptions and loyalty rewards.

We do not sell your personal data.

5. Notifications

With your permission, Fajr Up sends local notifications (e.g. a reminder the evening before a fasting day). These are generated on your device.

6. Data retention & deletion

Local data is removed when you delete the app. Account and group data is kept while your account is active. You can delete your account and all associated data directly in the app (Settings → account deletion), which also requests deletion of your analytics profile. You can also email support@fajrup.co.

7. Your rights

Depending on your location (including under the EU/EEA GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can object to analytics any time under Settings → Privacy, and you may lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. To exercise any other right, contact us at support@fajrup.co.

8. Children

Fajr Up is not directed at children under 16 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.

10. Controller & contact

The controller responsible for Fajr Up is Nomad Agency for Marketing & Consulting LLC, 2880 W Oakland Park Blvd, Ste 225C, Oakland Park, FL 33311, USA. As a US-based controller whose service providers may process data in the USA, international transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
